Damiano Quaranta is linked to material, like the sheath he uses, a medium that stimulates the impulse and relates it to his expressions. His investiga
tion of material does not consist in exasperating it. Never consumed, never brutalised. On the contrary, it retains its most intimate aspect. A material so rich in its strength and so enigmatic, that it allows his sign to be expressed through form. In quaranta’s work, the central and inescapable feature is form, a constant element in which all his work develops, and the certain and unshakeable relationship between form and matter.

The latest cycle of works, still unpublished, is linked to an extremely poignant memory of a trip to the mountains of the himalayan chain, a cycle that looks at what the press calls ‘the valley of the rainbow’.
The nylon jackets in various bright colours, firmly joined together, repre
sent the sacrifice and tragedy of hundreds of mummified mountaineers who still drive to the summit of everest. The artist is captivated by this strong contrast between tragedy and a colourful appearance, reminiscent of natural elements influenced by light.
