The painter and visual artist, Katerina Gutiérrez, was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1978. She began painting at the age of 8 in oil painting workshops, and at age 10, she entered the Santiago Institute of Contemporary Art. Years later, she studied for a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts at the University of Chile, graduating as a Painter in 2005.
In 2003, Katerina created a globally unique technique called "Eoligrafia" (Aeoligraphy), a graphic technique that uses dark airborne pigments as the artwork's medium. This led to a major solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago titled "Con Ciencia Nacional" in 2007. That same year, she inaugurated "El Aire es Gratis" at the Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna Museum and opened the artist-in-residence program at the Matucana 100 Cultural Center. Later, at the age of 27, she traveled to Italy to hold her first solo exhibition, "Eoligrafia", in Milan, an event that generated several publications in newspapers and magazines. flickr.com
In 2008, she won the MAE AECID Scholarship to pursue a postgraduate degree in artistic research at the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, where she relocated to live during 2008 and 2009.
Throughout her career, Katerina has held more than 50 collective exhibitions and 14 solo shows in important and diverse cultural spaces in Chile, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, and Mexico. Notable highlights include her participation in the NordArt art exhibition in Germany and presenting "Tierra de Nadie" at the XII Art Biennial of Valparaíso. She has also received various awards, including First Place in the APECH Painting Contest in 2023, 2018, and 2015; First Place in the X Chillán Painting Contest in 2018; being selected for the 12th edition of the Premio Joven Spain; and being selected for the Chilean Artists Abroad Promotion Project by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile.
Currently, the artist continues her study, research, and experimentation with artistic materials, as well as the collection of pigments extracted directly.
